Cancellation of Birthright Citizenship in the US: Trump Administration Seeks Partial Implementation of the Decision

The Trump administration has petitioned the Supreme Court to allow the partial enforcement of the executive order blocking automatic citizenship through birthright. Acting against the rulings of federal judges in Maryland, Massachusetts, and Washington halting the nationwide implementation of the executive order, the Justice Department argued in the petition that the decisions of district judges do not hold nationwide validity. The petition requested the partial implementation of the executive order nationwide during the legal process, insisting that the rulings should be limited to the plaintiffs who initiated the case and fall within the court’s jurisdiction. On January 20th, during his inauguration, President Trump signed an executive order revoking the regulation granting automatic citizenship to children born in the country. The executive order stipulates that a child born in the US to an undocumented mother cannot guarantee citizenship by birthright if the father is not a citizen or green card holder. On January 21st, 22 state attorneys general filed lawsuits against the executive order.
