After separate meetings with the US delegation in Saudi Arabia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a press conference. Zelensky stated that the agreement reached to ensure navigation security and halt attacks on energy infrastructure in the Black Sea took immediate effect after the talks, but noted that Russia had begun to manipulate and distort the agreements. Zelensky mentioned that if Russia violates the agreements, he will demand arms support and sanctions on Russia from US President Donald Trump, saying, “The US side believes these agreements came into effect after their own announcements. However, I do not trust that Russia will comply with these regulations.” Zelensky stated that Ukraine will do everything to enforce the agreements, but if Russia continues its attacks, they will receive a strong response. During the talks, Zelensky conveyed that they provided a list of facilities that should not be targeted under the agreement on energy infrastructure attacks to US officials. Zelensky expressed that the US did not include a clause in the written statement made on behalf of Ukraine about assisting in restoring Russia’s access to the global market for agricultural and fertilizer exports, saying, “We believe this would weaken the sanctions and our position.” Turkey Could Be an Observer in the Black Sea Ceasefire Zelensky said, “The US side did not want to delve into many details to prevent this process from failing. However, we must understand the answers to the details in any case.” Zelensky mentioned that Turkey could participate in observing the ceasefire in the Black Sea, and Middle Eastern countries could be involved in the ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure, but emphasized that these issues have not yet been discussed with these countries. Zelensky also revealed that the US presented an expanded draft agreement to Ukraine on precious metals, stating that he had not yet had the opportunity to thoroughly review the new draft but clarified that the proposal for Ukraine to further engage in the nuclear energy sector did not feature in the draft.
