Ceasefire Talks in Gaza: Initial Stage to Last 45 Days

Talks are being held between Israel and Hamas in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, regarding a ceasefire in Gaza. It has been mentioned that in the negotiations, a 45-day ceasefire under U.S. guarantee is being discussed. Hamas stated that they have received the proposal, emphasized that resistance weapons are red lines, and their release is not up for discussion.

During the first phase of the ceasefire, Hamas is expected to release 8 Israeli hostages in Gaza. In return, Israel will release 66 Palestinian prisoners in its jails and also free hundreds of Palestinian detainees from Gaza. Following this, humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza will resume.

After 45 days, an extension of the ceasefire is expected upon Hamas releasing Israeli hostages in Gaza. Reports suggest that if Hamas accepts the agreement, Israel will engage in second-stage negotiations, facilitated by the U.S., to cease attacks.

According to Israeli media, discussions have taken place about releasing approximately 10 living and many deceased Israeli captives in exchange for ensuring an extended ceasefire, humanitarian aid access to Gaza, and achieving long-term peace.

Reports also indicate that Israel has committed to participating in negotiations on ending attacks through the mediation of the U.S. if Hamas accepts the agreement. This shift in position is seen as a significant turning point in the negotiations.
