CEO of Lego and Close Friend of Danish Queen Dies in Skiing Accident

The manager of Lego and close friend of Danish Queen Mary, Michael Halbye, passed away over the weekend in a skiing accident.
64-year-old Halbye fell off-piste while skiing in the Verbier region of the Swiss Alps on Saturday, sustaining fatal injuries.
According to a statement from Kirkbi, the parent company of Lego, Halbye was airlifted to the hospital but succumbed to internal bleeding. Danish Queen Mary released a statement honoring her friend, whom she described as someone with a rare positive energy, extensive knowledge, and a strong commitment to making a difference for those outside society.
The Queen expressed her deep sorrow at the sudden death of Michael Halbye, highlighting his positive energy, vast knowledge, and determination to make a difference for others. She acknowledged him as her friend who will be missed by many and sent her thoughts to his family and close friends.
LEGO STATEMENT
The statement from the company revealed that Halbye had been a board member of Kirkbi since 2020 and was elected as vice chairman in 2022.
Within a short period, he became a trusted partner of Thomas Kirk Kristiansen, the Chairman of the Board who owns the majority of Lego Group.
Kristiansen expressed condolences to the family and loved ones of Michael, acknowledging the unexpected loss of a man who had a significant and positive impact on those around him in all aspects of life.
