China initiates a new era in space: Establishes constellation in Earth-Moon region

According to the China Aerospace Technology and Engineering Center, China has successfully established a constellation of three satellites in the Distant Retrograde Orbit (DRO) in the Earth-Moon region, providing new opportunities for long-term scientific research. The China Academy of Sciences announced yesterday that the world’s first three-satellite constellation based on the Distant Retrograde Orbit has been deployed in the DRO, with measurements and communication links established millions of kilometers apart among the three satellites. Researcher Wang Wenbin from the Center for Aerospace Technology and Engineering affiliated with the Academy highlighted the highly stable orbit of DRO, emphasizing that spacecraft require very little fuel to enter and remain in this orbit. Wang noted that scientists benefitting from DRO’s long-term stability can conduct fundamental scientific research in areas such as quantum mechanics and atomic physics.
