China Records a Current Account Surplus of $422 Billion

In China, the current account balance showed a surplus of $422 billion in 2024. The State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) of China disclosed the current account balance for the period of January-December 2024. The current account, which represents the total balance of income and expenditures in foreign trade, services, investments, and current transfers, recorded a surplus of $422 billion throughout the year. During this period, there was a surplus of $767.9 billion in foreign trade, a deficit of $228.8 billion in services trade, a deficit of $131.9 billion in investments and foreign flows, and a surplus of $14.8 billion in current transfers. The ratio of the current account surplus to the gross domestic product (GDP) was 2.2%.
