Commission Established for Drafting Transition Constitution in Syria

Following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, a commission has been established to draft the constitution for the transition period. The Syrian Presidency announced through its social media accounts that President Ahmed Shaar issued a statement establishing a commission to prepare a draft constitution for the transition process. The statement emphasized the desire of the Syrian people to build a state based on the rule of law and highlighted the outcomes of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference. Consequently, the President issued a decree to form a committee of experts to prepare a constitutional declaration regulating the transition process. The committee includes Syrian political scientist Dr. Abdulhamid El Awak, jurist and faculty member Dr. Yaser El Huweish, jurist and faculty member Dr. Ismail Halfan, political scientist Dr. Mohammed Rida Jalhi, jurist and faculty member Dr. Ahmed Qurbi, writer, journalist, and jurist Dr. Bahia Mardini, and jurist Dr. Rian Kahilan as the individuals responsible for drafting the transition constitution. It was revealed that El Awak, who is part of the team preparing the constitution draft, is a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Mardin Artuklu University.
