Conflict between Kenyan and Ethiopian fishermen: 13 dead, 22 missing

A clash between Ethiopian and Kenyan fishermen resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals, with 3 wounded and 22 missing.

The conflict erupted between Ethiopian and Kenyan fishermen in the Lopeimukat and Natira regions near the Omo River, which lies on the border of the two countries.

Reports indicate that 13 Ethiopians lost their lives, 3 were injured, and 22 Kenyan fishermen went missing in the incident. Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai of Kenya’s Turkana region stated that the clashes began last Saturday, with 15 fishing boats reportedly stolen. Lomorukai also mentioned that 6 fishermen belonging to the Dasenech ethnic group in Ethiopia were rescued and sent back. Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen stated that additional security forces were deployed to the region and efforts were made to establish peace by engaging with Ethiopia.
