Continued Decrease in Foreign Exchange Protected Deposits

Last week saw a withdrawal of 32.8 billion liras from foreign exchange protected deposit accounts. The total balance of these accounts decreased to 846.6 billion liras.
The decline in foreign exchange protected Turkish Lira deposits and participation accounts persists.
According to the weekly bulletin published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), the balance of foreign exchange protected deposits decreased by 32 billion 765 million liras in the week ending on February 28th, reaching 846 billion 579 million liras.
Thus, the size of foreign exchange protected deposits accounts for 4.27% of total deposits.
Total deposits in the banking sector, including interbank, decreased by 67 billion 505 million liras last week, reaching 19 trillion 803 billion 742 million liras.
The total credit volume of the sector increased by 166 billion 634 million liras, rising from 16 trillion 690 billion 918 million liras to 16 trillion 857 billion 552 million liras.
