Controversial post from Germany! Apologizes to Azerbaijan

Germany has apologized to Azerbaijan for President Walter Steinmeier’s use of the flag of the so-called Armenian administration occupying Karabakh on social media. Dorthe Dinger, Head of the Office of the German Presidency, sent a letter to Hikmet Hajiyev, Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan. Dinger stated in the letter that the post in question was briefly published on President Steinmeier’s social media account and was immediately deleted once the mistake was noticed. Dinger expressed regret for the technical error that led to the publication, clarifying that it has no connection to Germany’s known stance on Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. She sincerely apologized for any incorrect impressions the post may have caused in Azerbaijan. Dinger noted that Steinmeier’s upcoming visit to Azerbaijan aims to strengthen Azerbaijan-Germany partnership and support the ongoing peace process in the region. Prior to his visit to Armenia, Steinmeier had summoned Germany’s Ambassador to Baku to the Foreign Ministry for using the flag of the former occupation regime in Karabakh on his Instagram account, prompting Azerbaijan to request an apology from Germany. After visiting Armenia, Steinmeier will hold meetings in Azerbaijan.
