Turkey and the European Union have come together at a critical economic summit. The meeting, held after a 6-year gap, includes the participation of Treasury and Finance Minister Şimşek and high-ranking EU officials. The Turkey-European Union (EU) High-Level Economic Dialogue Meeting is taking place in Brussels following a 6-year break. The meeting, which started in the morning at the main building of the EU Commission in Brussels, was attended by many top officials such as Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, EU Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis, and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos. The first part of the meeting will discuss the macroeconomic outlooks of Turkey and the EU, steps that can be taken in the field of competitiveness, and structural reforms. Minister Şimşek and Commissioner Dombrovskis will co-chair these sessions. In the second part, leading representatives of the business world in Turkey and the EU will evaluate joint investment and trade opportunities with ministers and commissioners. High-level executives from European-based financial institutions such as the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Council will also participate in the meetings. Minister Şimşek is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with Dombrovskis and Kos during the summit. The meeting is significant for strengthening economic relations between the parties and deepening strategic cooperation. The Turkey-EU High-Level Economic Dialogue Meeting was previously held in 2016, 2017, and 2019. Minister Şimşek also represented Turkey at the first meeting. It was decided to restart the high-level dialogue meeting after a 6-year hiatus.
