Critical Post-Crisis Meeting between the US and Ukraine: Delegations to Meet in Jeddah

American and Ukrainian delegations will sit down to talks today in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. The agenda will focus on the continuation of arms assistance to Ukraine and potential concession options in negotiations with Russia. The delegations have arrived in Jeddah. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who in turn discussed with Ukrainian President Zelensky. Today, the American and Ukrainian delegations will meet in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
This will be the first top-level meeting since the debate between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and American President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. The American delegation will include Special Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the delegation.
Ukrainian President Zelensky’s advisor Andriy Yermak will lead the Ukrainian delegation. Rubio has arrived in Jeddah and addressed journalists’ questions during the journey. The American Secretary approved of Ukraine’s proposal for a partial ceasefire to end the war, stating, “It’s the kind of concession we need to see to end the conflict.” Rubio emphasized that Russia cannot take over the entire Ukrainian territory, but also highlighted the difficulty in removing Russian forces from the held territories.
The American Secretary of State also mentioned that they will discuss the resumption of military assistance with the Ukrainian delegation. He added, “It is essential to determine what Russia is willing to accept for an agreement for future talks.”
MEETING WITH THE CROWN PRINCE
Prior to today’s talks, Rubio met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. The two discussed the reconstruction of Gaza and developments in Syria. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also met with Salman, emphasizing that the meeting was mainly based on security guarantees for Ukraine.
Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine’s stance will be constructive in today’s meeting with the American delegation.
