Criticism Targets Almanya’s Future Chancellor Merz Due to Relationship with Netanyahu

Anticipated to become Germany’s new chancellor, Friedrich Merz faced criticism for inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the country. Winning the elections in Germany, the candidate of the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) parties and Chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Merz, came under scrutiny for his promise to find ways for Netanyahu, who has an arrest warrant, to visit Germany without violating the laws.

Following the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Germany, the candidate of the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) parties and Chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), who is expected to be Germany’s new chancellor, Friedrich Merz, received criticism.

In a phone call following the election victory, Merz assured Netanyahu, who has an international arrest warrant, that they would find ways and means for him to visit Germany without being arrested and to leave again. “BLATANTLY VIOLATING THE LAWS”

The International Amnesty Organization criticized Merz on social media platform X. In a statement highlighting that Merz did not make a good start as the future chancellor, they stated, “Merz invited Benjamin Netanyahu, who was issued an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court on the evening of the federal parliamentary elections in Germany, to Germany. This is a call to blatantly violate the laws.” The Amnesty Organization, which demands the international arrest warrant against the Israeli Prime Minister to be executed by Germany, emphasized the importance of the new German government’s respect for international law and human rights organizations. They pointed out that a foreign policy with no double standards should be followed. “IF HE COMES, HE SHOULD BE ARRESTED”

Co-Chairman of the Left Party Jan van Aken stated, “If Netanyahu comes to Germany, he should certainly be arrested. This is a requirement of international law.” Aken described the failure to execute the arrest warrant as a disaster and emphasized that it would be a major mistake. “LAWS ARE ONLY APPLIED WHEN IT SUITS THE GOVERNMENT”

Merz’s desire to invite Netanyahu to the country also received criticism on social media. A user pointed out in a post that Germany was moving towards becoming an arbitrary and unfair state under Merz.

The post read, “Friedrich Merz is openly displaying complete disregard for the law. In Germany, laws are only applied when it suits the government. This is arbitrariness. Merz is not even attempting to mimic the rule of law anymore.” DECISION REGARDING NETANYAHU

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza. The court also rejected Israel’s objections to the ICC’s jurisdiction and ruled that it had jurisdiction over crimes committed in Palestinian territories. Israeli soldiers who recently went to the Netherlands had to leave the country due to concerns about arrest warrants for war crimes committed in Gaza.
