Current Account Deficit Started to Reveal 2025

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has published the balance of payments statistics for the month of January. In January, the current account deficit reached 3.8 billion dollars. Expectations were for a current account deficit of 3.25 billion dollars.
Excluding gold and energy, the current account showed a surplus of 2.403 billion US dollars, while the balance of payments recorded a defined foreign trade deficit of 5.558 billion US dollars.
According to annualized data, the current account deficit in January was approximately 11.5 billion dollars, while the defined foreign trade balance of payments also showed a deficit of 57.6 billion dollars.
During the same period, the services balance and secondary income balance recorded surpluses of 61.9 billion dollars and 101 million US dollars respectively, while the primary income balance showed a deficit of 16 billion dollars.
