Cyberattack on ChatGPT by Russian Hackers: Data of 20 Million Users May Have Been Stolen!

Russian hackers claimed to have obtained data from over 20 million users on the popular artificial intelligence bot ChatGPT.

It has been alleged that Russian hackers launched a cyberattack on OpenAI’s popular artificial intelligence bot, ChatGPT.

OVER 20 MILLION

Hackers claimed on a Darknet forum that they collected login credentials of ChatGPT users in bulk.

According to GbHackers portal, a Russian hacker named “emirking” alleged to have acquired “access codes for over 20 million OpenAI accounts.”

They were offering email addresses and passwords related to these accounts for sale on the Darknet. If these claims are true, a significant data breach may have occurred.

OPENAI HAS NOT CONFIRMED THE ATTACK However, OpenAI has not confirmed such an attack so far. In a statement to Decrypt, they stated, “We have not found any evidence connecting this event to a compromise of OpenAI systems.”

The company stated that they take these allegations seriously, but emphasized that there is no evidence of a security vulnerability at OpenAI.

JUST A BLUFF?

One of the Daily Dot journalists examined a sample of alleged user data that surfaced on the Darknet and found invalid email addresses.

Moreover, the hacker “emirking” is not a well-known figure in the hacking world. According to Heise, criminals in the Darknet often make false claims to attract attention or deceive buyers.

THEY HAD SEIZED THE DATA IN 2023 However, OpenAI is not considered a model company when it comes to protecting user data.

Last year, a hacker infiltrated OpenAI’s internal Slack conversations and accessed details about artificial intelligence development processes.

In 2023, other criminals were able to obtain data of OpenAI customers due to a simple software error.
