Death penalty possible for the infamous killer in the USA

Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing the CEO of the insurance company UnitedHealthcare, Brian Thompson, could face the death penalty for committing the crime of murder.

According to CNN, while Mangione’s trial for killing Thompson in 2024 is ongoing in federal and state courts, a new indictment has been prepared against him. Previously charged with “murder as a terrorist act,” Mangione is now facing charges of “committing murder using a firearm” in this new indictment. It is stated that if Mangione is convicted of “committing murder using a firearm,” the federal court may sentence him to the death penalty. On April 1st, US Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that she had instructed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in Mangione’s case.

In the USA, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot on December 4, 2024, in New York Manhattan, as he entered a hotel for a conference. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tish reported that the suspect, who was detained while eating at a restaurant after a police tip-off and found with a silencer and fake IDs during a search, was 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, born in Maryland and registered in Hawaii. New York Police Department Chief Detective Joseph Kenny also shared that a “ghost gun” made with a 3D printer, a silencer, and a 3-page document addressed to the health insurance company were found on Mangione.
