Decision by the United States on Gazprom for Turkey

The United States has extended the exemption for Gazprombank requested by Turkey until May after negotiations between Turkey and the USA. The exemption granted to Turkey on December 20th was set to expire today. The Ministry of Treasury and Finance, along with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, had been working intensively on this issue. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek had a teleconference with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding this matter. Turkey makes payments for natural gas imports from Russia through Gazprombank. In order to ensure that Turkey’s payments are not affected by the sanctions against the company, this exemption was introduced.
