Decline in Global Food Prices

The world food prices decreased in January due to the drop in sugar and vegetable oil prices. The world food prices in January fell compared to the previous month, driven by sharp declines in sugar and vegetable oil prices. The world food price index compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) monitoring the monthly changes in cereals, oilseeds, dairy products, meat, and sugar prices dropped to 124.9 points in January, which was 6.2% higher than the same month of the previous year. The index, which was announced as 127 in December, was not revised. Sugar prices fell by 6.8% compared to the previous month and by 18.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. Vegetable oil prices, on the other hand, decreased by 5.6% monthly and remained 24.9% higher than the same month of the previous year.
