Decline in the Passenger Vehicle and Light Commercial Vehicle Market

The passenger vehicle and light commercial vehicle market shrank by 14.2% in the January-February period compared to the previous year, reaching 159,384 units. In Turkey, the passenger vehicle and light commercial vehicle market recorded a 14.2% decline in the January-February period compared to the same period of the previous year, totaling 159,384 units. According to the data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ADMA) for February 2025, passenger car sales decreased by 9.8% in the January-February period compared to the same period last year, amounting to 131,965, while light commercial vehicle sales also decreased by 30.4% to 27,419 units. In February, the passenger vehicle and light commercial vehicle market shrank by 14.4% compared to February 2024, reaching 90,730 units, with passenger car sales declining by 7.6% to 76,021 units compared to the same month of the previous year. Light commercial vehicle sales also experienced a 38% decline, dropping to 14,709 units. The market was dominated by SUVs at 82.6%, with low tax rate vehicles in the A, B, and C segments. C-segment cars held a 56.3% share with 74,343 units, and B-segment cars accounted for a 25.9% share with 34,175 units. When evaluated by body type, SUVs were the most preferred, with a 58.6% share and 77,344 sales. Following SUVs, sedans had a 24.6% share, with 32,481 sales, and hatchbacks accounted for a 16.1% share with 21,238 units. Gasoline car sales had a 49.6% share with 65,517 units, while hybrid car sales accounted for a 28.7% share with 37,864 units. Electric car sales constituted a 12.7% share with 16,698 units, diesel car sales had an 8.7% share with 11,430 units, and LPG car sales held a 0.3% share with 456 units. Electric car sales below 160 kW increased by 41.1% to a 9% share, while electric car sales above 160 kW saw a 259.1% growth, reaching a 3.6% share. Car sales below 1600cc registered a 32.8% decrease with a 58% share, cars in the 1600-2000cc range decreased by 31.9% to a 0.4% share, and cars above 2000cc increased by 22% to a 0.3% share. Automatic transmission cars held a 94.2% share with 124,287 units, while manual transmission cars reached a 5.8% share with 7,678 units. In terms of body type for light commercial vehicles, vans were the most preferred at 73.5% share and 20,158 units, followed by pickups with a 12.9% share and 3,544 units.
