Deputy Minister Said “TRNC,” Opposition in Greece Demands Resignation

Greece’s SYRIZA party demanded the resignation of Deputy Energy Minister Cafos due to his use of the term “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)” in a post from 5 years ago.
The use of the TRNC term in Greece has caused discomfort within the opposition.
The Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) requested the resignation of Energy Deputy Minister Nikos Cafos, who started his duty last week, for using the term “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)” in a 2020 post. SYRIZA’s spokesperson Yorgos Karameros mentioned on the Greek State Television ERT program that Cafos had used the “TRNC” term during his time as an economic analyst.
Stating that “not apologizing after writing TRNC is unacceptable,” Karameros demanded Cafos to resign immediately. On the other hand, in a post from his X account, Cafos stated, “The opposition is attacking me due to a 2020 post I made, realized my mistake, and deleted. I cannot allow anyone to doubt my patriotism, loyalty to my country, and to Cyprus.” Cafos was appointed as the Deputy Energy Minister following a cabinet reshuffle in Greece on March 14th.
