Discovery of 6 New Bacterial Genera in Antarctica

Chinese researchers have discovered 6 new genera and 7 new species of bacteria in Antarctica. According to Xinhua, researchers from the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC) announced the findings of their studies in Antarctica. By “standardizing the preservation” of over 3,500 polar microorganism variants, researchers collected around 30,000 samples from 185 genera. Through the analysis of samples collected during many expeditions, researchers who discovered 6 new genera and 7 new species of bacteria in Antarctica emphasized the importance of these microorganisms for biological genetic and species diversity studies.
