Doctors diagnosed “wedding stress” but a 4th stage colon cancer emerged: Ignored symptoms of a 35-year-old man

Ashley Robinson, 35, dismissed the stomach issues he experienced during wedding preparations as “stress” when he consulted a doctor. However, the reality emerged a few months later: Robinson had begun to fight deadly colon cancer. Living in England, Robinson visited his family doctor last May after noticing blood in his stool. Doctors assured him that his problems were not serious and should pass within a few days. A month later, Robinson, who worked as a chef, suddenly lost a significant amount of blood and was rushed to the emergency room. However, he was only diagnosed with hemorrhoids there, being told he was “too young for cancer.” The week after his wedding, Robinson, who had lost almost 12.7 kilograms, was encouraged by his wife Jasmin to seek another doctor for further testing. This time, tests revealed that Robinson had 4th stage colon cancer and the tumor had spread to his liver. Colon cancer was the most advanced stage of the disease spreading throughout his body. Doctors noted that Robinson’s condition worsened due to the delay in starting cancer treatment. Currently undergoing immunotherapy, Robinson was shocked to learn that his tumor had shrunk by 90% during treatment. However, the initial signs of the disease had been overlooked by doctors much earlier. Stressing the importance of not overlooking colon cancer symptoms at a young age, Robinson said, “When I experienced these symptoms, I knew my body well and felt that something was wrong. But the doctors said I was too young and the possibility of cancer was out of the question.” The increase in colon cancer cases worldwide is baffling doctors. The frequency of this disease in young adults under 50 years old has increased by 50% in the last 30 years. Experts suggest that obesity, excessive antibiotic use, cell phone radiation, and processed foods could be among the reasons for this increase. Every year, 44,000 cases of bowel cancer are diagnosed in England, and 142,000 cases in the USA. This type of cancer stands out as the fourth most common cancer in both countries. Symptoms of bowel cancer include persistent diarrhea or constipation, blood in the stool, abdominal pain, bloating, and unexpected weight loss. It is crucial for individuals experiencing these symptoms to seek medical professionals without delay.
