Dog shoots owner after paw gets caught in trigger

In the United States, a dog shot its owner with a gun. Officials reported that the man was injured when the dog’s paw got caught on the trigger of the gun while he was lying in bed.

An unusual incident occurred in the state of Tennessee in the US. A man was shot by his dog. According to officials, a man named Jerald Kirkwood was lying in bed with his gun when his one-year-old pitbull named Oreo’s paw got caught on the trigger guard of the gun and the gun went off.

BULLET GRAZED HIS LEG

According to police reports, there was a woman next to Kirkwood at the time of the incident. When the gun went off due to the pitbull’s movement, the bullet grazed Kirkwood’s left thigh. The woman and the dog left the scene, stating that Kirkwood was not in critical condition and was taken to the hospital.

“A PLAYFUL DOG SUDDENLY WENT CRAZY”

According to The Guardian, the woman who witnessed the incident stated in a local news channel interview that Oreo was a playful dog who loved to jump, and the gun went off before she realized what was happening. The woman mentioned that they would ensure all guns in their home are safely secured after the accident, and emphasized gun safety by saying, “Keep the safety on or use the trigger lock.”

SIMILAR INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED BEFORE

This incident is not the first gun accident caused by pets in the US. In 2018, a man in Iowa was shot in the leg when his gun went off while playing with his dog, and in 2019, a hunting dog in Louisiana accidentally fired a gun in a parked vehicle, causing his owner to lose a leg. While the US is known for its widespread use of firearms, experts highlight the need for more precautions regarding gun safety.
