Double pension for retirees becoming outdated

When receiving a retirement pension, the working period comes to an end. Those who entered the insurance system after October 1, 2008, will not be able to work after retiring. Experts say this rule was legislated 17 years ago. They note that its first impact will be seen in 2030. Many citizens in Turkey continue to work after retiring. Employers pay social security support premiums for retired employees. According to Social Security Institution (SGK) data, there are approximately 2 million retirees in the workforce. The rule regarding working after retirement changed 17 years ago. The rule changed on October 1, 2008, for those with insurance entry after that date, there is no right to work after retirement. Prof. Dr. Cem Kılıç of TOBB ETÜ stated, “When they retire, they will not have the opportunity, like the EYT (Retirement Age Harmony) group, to receive both a salary and a retirement pension simultaneously. In fact, this has been a provision since October 1, 2008. It is not something new.” The impact will be seen in 2030, as those insured after 2008 have not yet obtained the right to retire. According to experts, they need at least five more years to qualify for retirement. Therefore, the current law does not affect any retirees at the moment. Kılıç commented, “Once this law comes into effect, the social security support premium will be eliminated for those who are insured for the first time. It will not be possible to receive both the retirement pension and the salary from the current workplace.”
