Elon Musk Calls for Dismissal of Judge Who Restricted DOGE Access to Treasury Systems

Elon Musk criticized a federal judge for issuing an order that temporarily restricted access of the DOGE team to US Treasury Department payment systems and data. Attorneys general from 19 states filed a lawsuit claiming that Donald Trump violated constitutional law by granting Musk nearly unrestricted access to the Treasury Department. Musk had previously accused judges of corruption and called for their dismissal if they did not decide in his favor. Elon Musk is now demanding the removal of federal judge Paul Engelmayer in New York for issuing an order that limited the DOGE team’s access to US Treasury Department payment systems and sensitive data. Over the weekend, Musk shared messages on his social media platform X, calling Engelmayer a “corrupt judge protecting corruption” and stating that he “NEEDS to be removed immediately!” He also published a text outlining his plans with the Treasury Department on X. Musk and specific government officials involved with the DOGE initiative were tasked by Donald Trump to reduce the federal budget, make significant cuts to the federal workforce, and find ways to eliminate as many federal regulations as possible. As part of this mission, Musk’s DOGE team targeted foreign humanitarian organizations that received minimal funding from the budget, particularly USAID (United States Agency for International Development). The team attempted to cut funds allocated to USAID by gaining access to the US Treasury Department’s payment system. US District Judge Engelmayer, appointed by former President Barack Obama, issued an order temporarily restricting DOGE’s access to these systems as part of a lawsuit filed by attorneys general of 19 states against President Trump, the Treasury Department, and newly appointed Secretary Scott Bessent. Musk criticized the decision as “Absolutely insane!” on X, expressing concerns about fraud and waste without oversight of taxpayer dollars. The attorneys general accused Trump of violating laws passed by Congress by granting Musk and his team “unique” access to the infrastructure where sensitive taxpayer data was stored or processed within the Treasury computer systems. After this decision was announced, Musk liked and shared a post on X from a follower advocating for DOGE to ignore the court order.
