Elon Musk’s $97 Billion Offer for OpenAI

American billionaire and the world’s richest person, Elon Musk, together with an investor group he leads, made a $97.4 billion offer to purchase the OpenAI company. The developer of Artificial Intelligence ChatGPT, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, rejected the offer by saying “If you want, I can buy Twitter for $9.75 billion.”

The claim was first reported yesterday in the American publication, The Wall Street Journal. Musk, along with a group of investors, using his lawyer as an intermediary, submitted the $97.4 billion offer to the OpenAI board. According to Musk’s lawyer, the American billionaire argues that OpenAI needs to return to its “once open-source, security-focused, and public-serving” roots.
OPENAI CEO ALTMAN REJECTED THE OFFER OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, rejected Musk’s offer through his X platform saying, “No, thanks. But we can buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want.” He used the former name “Twitter” instead of X. Musk responded to this post by calling it “deceptive.” Open AI was established in 2015 in a non-profit format by many people, including Elon Musk and Sam Altman. Musk left the board of directors in 2018.
