NETANYAHU’S MESSAGE: “OCCUPATION WILL BE PERMANENT”

The Israeli army occupied the buffer zone adjacent to the Golan Heights, which has been under occupation since 1967, on December 8, 2024. Israeli forces extended the occupation towards the outskirts of the capital, Damascus, reaching within 20 kilometers of the city. The Separation of Forces Agreement signed between the two countries in 1974 established the boundaries of the buffer zone and the demilitarized zone in the Golan Heights. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conveyed a message that the occupation in southern Syria will be permanent and requested the disarmament of the southern region, contrary to Syria’s sovereignty.
