Emine Erdogan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, traveled to New York to deliver a speech at the special event for the International Zero Waste Day on March 30 organized by the United Nations. While there, she participated in the traditional iftar program. Emine Erdogan mentioned the global impact of the Zero Waste project initiated in Turkey, emphasizing Turkey’s role as a leading actor in the sustainable future of the world.

During her visit to New York for the special event on March 30 International Zero Waste Day at the United Nations, Emine Erdogan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, attended the traditional iftar program organized by the Turkish-American National Steering Committee at the Turkish House. In attendance at the event held at the Turkish House were the Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum, as well as representatives from diplomatic missions, high-ranking officials from the Turkish-American and American Muslim communities, and representatives of civil society organizations.

Emine Erdogan stated, “All these initiatives serve to help the global public understand the values of our country. Just as the poet said, ‘My flag shining bright, wave by wave! I have read your epic, I will write your epic.’ In the Turkish Century, we will write new epics together, hopefully!”

She also addressed the ongoing civilian massacre in Gaza by Israel, stating, “The world we live in has turned into a place where massacres against children can be justified.” After the iftar program, Emine Erdogan visited an exhibition at the Turkish House organized by students from the American Maarif School focusing on the Zero Waste Project theme. She interacted with the students and school officials, taking group photos together.
