Entry to the UK Now Requires Travel Authorization: Is it Also Applicable to Turkey?

Citizens of 48 countries worldwide, including the European Union, are now required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK. But is Turkey among these countries?

Under the new system, travelers who do not require a visa to enter the UK will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) through a new digital registration program before their journey.

According to CNN International, individuals who do not need a visa to travel to the UK will now require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) that pre-approves their entry into the country before traveling. Turkey is not included among the 48 countries in question. The program was initially launched in 2024 for Gulf Cooperation Council citizens, then expanded to include non-European passengers, including the six million travelers from the US, Canada, and Australia who visit the UK annually. The ETA program is for short-term visits to the UK for tourism and business purposes lasting less than six months. There are several other ETA categories, including short-term education and permitted paid tasks, listed on the UK government’s website.

VISA OR NOT?

While some refer to it as a visa, it is actually classified as a visa exemption. Travelers who require a visa to enter the UK based on their nationality will still need to apply for a visa. However, they will not need to additionally obtain an ETA.
