EPDK President Yılmaz: Why should the state subsidize the electricity of those living in mansions?

The President of EPDK, Mustafa Yılmaz, emphasized that there has been no increase in electricity bills, stating, “Why should the state subsidize the energy of those living in villas or mansions?”
Mustafa Yılmaz, the President of Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), shared his thoughts on the energy agenda. Speaking about the new period in electricity bills, Yılmaz said, “The state provides subsidies, how much we should provide is a crucial issue. Why should the state subsidize the energy of those living in villas or mansions? The needs of a citizen working for minimum wage are met by the state. The energy of a 3-million electric car should not be subsidized by the state either. Subsidies also hinder investments.” Answering Bloomberg HT’s questions at the Energy Law Congress, Yılmaz stated that it is a correct decision not to provide subsidies above 5 thousand kilowatt-hours.
“THERE WAS NO INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY” Yılmaz said, “There was no increase in electricity prices, those who consume more will bear the cost. Otherwise, your taxes and my taxes would be paying someone else’s electricity bills.” “WE DIDN’T MAKE REGULATIONS OVERNIGHT” Yılmaz emphasized that they did not make overnight regulations about applications for storage-based Renewable Energy Sources (GES), stating that the opinions of all market players were taken into consideration.
