Era of Domestic and National Metro Line

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Uraloğlu carried out the test drive of the Gebze OSB-Darıca metro line. Uraloğlu emphasized that a new era has begun in metros, stating, “Our metro lines will now be entirely domestic and national.”

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the Gebze OSB-Darıca Metro Line is the first metro line built as a product of Turkish technical and engineering expertise. Uraloğlu stated that a new era has begun in metro line constructions in the Turkey Century, affirming, “From the construction phase of our metro lines to the electrification and signaling phase, everything will be domestic and national, along with the vehicles that will be used in the process.” Uraloğlu noted that the total length of urban rail system lines completed by the ministry and made available to citizens nationwide is 434 kilometers. Regarding ongoing projects, Uraloğlu provided details, highlighting, “We are currently continuing the construction of a total of 73.4 kilometers of urban rail system lines, including the Gebze OSB-Darıca Coastal Line, in Kocaeli, Istanbul, and Bursa.” Uraloğlu mentioned that work continues on preparing the projects of a total of 67 kilometers of four separate urban rail system lines in Sakarya and Trabzon, with two in Ankara. He further stated that with the ongoing and planned projects, the total length of urban rail systems constructed by the ministry will reach 634 kilometers.

SERVING 330 THOUSAND PASSENGERS DAILY The construction of the 15.4-kilometer Gebze OSB-Darıca Coastal Line, which is still in progress, is being built as a double track, Uraloğlu explained, adding, “With 11 stations, our line designed for a speed of 90 kilometers will be able to serve 330 thousand passengers daily. It will connect the areas between Gebze Organized Industrial Zone and Darıca Coast, where the population density is high, with metro comfort.”

COMPLETION OF WORKS BY 2026 Uraloğlu expressed the aim to complete all works on the metro line by the second half of 2026, mentioning that the line is projected to generate economic gains exceeding 2 billion 734 million euros over 25 years. Uraloğlu stated that once the metro line, with an 80% domestic production rate, is completed, the vehicles will operate without drivers.
