EU Gives Time to US until Mid-April

The European Union has postponed planned measures in response to US steel and aluminum tariffs until mid-April to allow for negotiations. Maros Sefcovic, the European Commission’s Member for Trade, spoke about trade issues between the EU and the US at the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament. Sefcovic noted that the EU will align the timing of the two sets of measures prepared in response to US steel and aluminum tariffs, stating that they will consult with member states during this process and gain time for negotiations with the US side. In case an agreement cannot be reached, Sefcovic stated that the EU will reconsider its response in light of the new reciprocal tariffs that the US administration will implement on April 2, emphasizing that this approach can lead to a strong, proportionate, robust, and well-calibrated response.
