Europe Seeking a Way Out: Extraordinary Crisis Summit in Brussels

Following the dispute between President Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office, as well as the suspension of military aid to Ukraine, an extraordinary summit was held in Brussels. European leaders who invited Zelensky to the meeting delivered messages of support to Ukraine against Russia and the US. European Union (EU) countries gathered in Brussels for an extraordinary summit on European defense and Ukraine.
Prior to the summit, European leaders emphasized their continued support for Kiev.
AB Council President Antonio Costa, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, specially invited to the summit, made statements to the press at the summit entrance. Costa stated that European security and defense cannot be separated from that of Ukraine, and the EU will continue to support Kiev until it becomes an EU member, as it has been since the first day of the war.
Von der Leyen also remarked, “We are at a turning point for Europe and Ukraine, which is a part of our family.”
Stating that “Europe is facing an open and existing danger,” von der Leyen emphasized the need for Europe to both protect and defend itself, as well as to put Ukraine in a position where it can defend itself and strive for a lasting and fair peace. Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed his gratitude to all European leaders for the strong and clear support they have shown since the beginning of the war.
Referring to his disagreement with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Zelensky said, “You stood by our side during this process and throughout the past week.”
Zelensky also stated, “We not only hear it, but we feel it. The strong message you have given to the people of Ukraine, Ukrainian warriors, civilians, and all our families is very important.” The extraordinary summit in Brussels holds critical importance as it was held immediately after President Trump’s dispute with Zelensky in the Oval Office and the decision to suspend military aid to Kiev.
