European Union Seeks Involvement of Turkey in Defense: Sharing from EU Council President Costa

EU Council President Costa announced their intention to increase collaboration in defense with 5 NATO countries, including Turkey. European Union (EU) Council President Antonio Costa and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shared posts on their social media accounts regarding the Virtual Meeting of like-minded Country Leaders, which was attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Costa mentioned that in this morning’s video conference meeting, they informed President Erdoğan, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, and Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Mjoll Frostadottir about the summit on Ukraine and European defense held in Brussels yesterday. Costa stated that our collaboration with like-minded NATO allies is vital for international security, including for Ukraine. He also used words like “It is essential to partner with our allies in Europe and beyond the Atlantic to support Ukraine in order to achieve a fair and lasting peace.” Von der Leyen also reported that they are accelerating their efforts in this area with a defense plan named “Rearm Europe” prepared for the defense of European citizens and the long-term security of Ukraine.
