A fire broke out in a car following an explosion at Dam Square in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam. The police suspect that the driver deliberately started the fire. According to the Amsterdam police, it is believed that the driver intentionally caused the fire, possibly acting knowingly. The police statement indicates that video footage suggests the fire originated from the explosion. The explosion occurred while there were many people in the crowded square, and social media images showed a person whose clothes were on fire near the red car that caught fire during the explosion. The person believed to be injured in the fire was extinguished before being taken into custody by the police. As the police closed off a large portion of the square to pedestrians and traffic, explosive experts began examining the vehicle. Both the driver and the driver’s car were injured. According to Dutch News, the small red car experienced a small explosion while moving towards an area where pedestrians were at Dam Square. A person with burning clothes emerged from the car. A police car witnessed the incident, and two police officers ran towards the burning car. The police statement indicated that the driver appeared to have intentionally started the fire and was also injured in the incident. The explosion occurred one week after a stabbing attack near Dam Square that left five people injured.
