Fake Snow Scandal in Holiday Village: “Insult to My Intelligence”

A holiday village named Chengdu Snow Village in the southwest province of Sichuan, China, sparked outrage by using fake snow. The village aimed to create a “snowy atmosphere” for visitors by using a mixture of foamy water and cotton to produce snow. After it was revealed that the holiday village used fake snow, they apologized to the visitors. Located in Chengdu, a new facility opened its doors for Chinese New Year celebrations. However, guests noticed the fake snow in operation since January and shared their disappointment on social media. Many visitors expressed feeling deceived in these posts. One user commented, “In this digital age, holiday resorts should share accurate information and avoid false advertising. Otherwise, they only tarnish their own image.” Another tourist mentioned feeling deceived and declared, “My intelligence has been insulted!” Another visitor who encountered the fake snow lamented, “I came to see snow, but you showed me cotton. I don’t know what to say.” In a statement on February 8, the holiday village explained, “We bought cotton to create a snowy atmosphere. However, it did not have the desired effect and left a bad impression on the visitors.” The facility apologized for the situation, announced refunds for visitors, and temporary closure due to the complaints.
