According to the data, Fed’s operating loss was calculated at $77.6 billion for the previous year. In 2023, the bank had reported an operating loss of $114.3 billion. It is worth noting that the size of Fed’s loss decreased during this period. Fed had last reported a profit in 2022, with earnings of $58.8 billion. The bank’s interest expenses decreased to $226.8 billion last year, down from $281.1 billion in 2023. Interest income also dropped from $174.5 billion in 2023 to $158.8 billion last year. The increase in interest rates in 2022 and 2023, following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 and the rising inflation, played a role in Fed’s loss during this period.
