First Harvest Sent to Istanbul: Price per Kilo Astonishing

The first indoor plum harvest of the season was carried out in the Mut district of Mersin. The plums found buyers at 8,000 Turkish Lira per kilo.

An harvesting event was organized in the greenhouse owned by farmer Mustafa Yılmaz in the Göksu Neighborhood of the district.

Greenhouse owner Mustafa Yılmaz mentioned that he has been dealing with the greenhouse on a one-acre land for three years, stating, “ORKÖY provided 50% support, 20% of which was a grant in our greenhouse. We covered the remaining amount. It was an open area, we closed it, turned it into a greenhouse. It’s February, we harvested our plums, made our first harvest. If it were outside, this harvest would have been around April 20th or 30th. We have significantly advanced it.” Yılmaz added that they export to foreign markets in addition to the domestic market, and due to being the only one producing early in the region, they cannot meet the demand, emphasizing that the government should provide more support to increase production.

On the other hand, the first plums of the season found buyers at 8,000 Turkish Lira per kilo. A total of 24 kilos of plums, with 9 plums in each package, were sent to Istanbul.
