Foam and Dead Fish Alarm in Australia: 2 Beaches Closed

The sight of white foam and dead fish washing ashore in Australia caused panic. Officials announced the closure of 2 beaches. Following the discomfort experienced by surfers in the region due to white foam and dead fish washing ashore in South Australia’s Adelaide city, 2 beaches were closed off. Officials reported that dozens of dead fish and unusual dirty white foam were reaching the shores of the beaches in Adelaide. Surfers that came into contact with the water complained of eye irritation, throat pain, and coughing, leading to the closure of the 2 beaches in the area. Sam Gaylard, an official from the South Australia Environmental Protection Agency, mentioned that they were considering the possibility that the event may have been caused by a microalgae bloom due to unusual weather conditions, stating, “During this time of year, when weather conditions are suitable, we occasionally see isolated microalgae blooms, but an event of this magnitude is definitely unusual.”
