Forbidden film by Esad meets the audience for the first time

During the toppled Esad regime, the film “Bad Son,” which was on the list of banned films, met the audience in the capital of Damascus, Syria for the first time. Directed by Gatfan Gannum, the film “Bad Son” was screened at the State Opera House in Damascus. Art lovers showed great interest in the first screening of the film within the country, which was banned during the Baas regime. The film “Bad Son,” shot in 2024, tells the story of the Baas regime’s oppression and pressure on the people during the periods of Hafez Esad and Bashar Esad. Gannum expressed his happiness at the film being screened despite being on the regime’s “banned films” list, saying, “I am very happy to see so many people here. I am proud of their participation.” Gannum, explaining that his wish for the film to be shown in Syria has come true, stated, “I had previously expressed my desire for the film to be shown in Syria. I always want people to show interest in cinema. Citizens are very eager for these works. I thank everyone who came to watch the film.”
