France announces 195 million euro aid to Ukraine from frozen Russian assets

The French government has announced a new aid package of 195 million euros to Ukraine from frozen Russian assets. Additionally, a 2.2 billion pound credit agreement supported by frozen Russian assets was signed between the UK and Ukraine.
French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu stated in an interview with the French newspaper Le Tribune Dimanche that Ukraine will receive 195 million euros in aid this year thanks to frozen Russian assets. He mentioned that this aid will be utilized to strengthen Ukraine’s defense, allowing for the supply of tanks, armored vehicles, 155mm artillery shells, and French-made AASM bombs. Lecornu also mentioned an increase in national defense spending and the production of Rafale fighter jets by French defense company Dassault Aviation, which will be increased from 2 per month to 4 to 5 by 2026. Additionally, Lecornu reiterated President Emmanuel Macron’s statement regarding Russia posing a significant threat to European security.
Furthermore, a 2.2 billion pound credit agreement supported by frozen Russian assets was signed between the UK and Ukraine. Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine War, Western countries have frozen around 300 billion dollars’ worth of Russian assets, with approximately 200 billion dollars in EU countries. These frozen assets generate billions of dollars in annual interest income, which G7 countries, particularly the US, aim to utilize in supporting Ukraine.
