Free train tickets for 36,000 young people from EU

The European Union will provide free train tickets for 36,000 young people to travel around Europe. The European Commission, an agency of the EU, announced that 36,000 free travel passes will be distributed to 18-year-old youths residing in countries associated with the Erasmus+ program, including Turkey. The program, named “DiscoverEU”, will allow successful applicants to travel by train throughout Europe for 30 days between July 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026. To be eligible, applicants must have been born between July 1, 2006, and June 30, 2007, and reside in countries linked to the Erasmus+ program such as the EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey. The announcement stated that applications will close on April 16 at 13:00 CET. The “DiscoverEU” initiative, part of the Erasmus+ program implemented by the EU from 2021 to 2027, focusing on education, youth, and sports, had already provided more than 355,000 travel cards since its launch in 2018.
