Gas Delivery from Turkey to Nakhchivan Starting

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Bayraktar announced that natural gas exports to Nakhchivan will commence this week.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar mentioned that Turkey will add a new point to its natural gas exports, following Bulgaria and Greece. During his visit to Moscow, the capital of Russia, Bayraktar responded to questions regarding the current agenda. They met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyev to discuss how to enhance the current cooperation and trade volume, as well as addressing new topics on the agenda. Bayraktar mentioned Russia’s interest in the planned nuclear power plant project in Sinop and disclosed ongoing efforts in this regard, stating, “However, our primary focus at the moment is to commission the first reactor in Akkuyu as soon as possible, and today we conducted meetings with the Rosatom company on this matter.” He also highlighted the significance of Turkmen gas being competitively priced and supplied to Turkey, which will provide enough gas this year for approximately 1.5 million households.

Gas Export to Nakhchivan Commencing

Bayraktar explained that they have facilitated natural gas entry to Turkey from 14 different points, saying, “We also have our export points. One is Bulgaria, another is Greece. Now, a new addition to these is happening. We are starting natural gas exports to Nakhchivan. The Iğdır-Nakhchivan pipeline is already completed. With the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, an inauguration ceremony will be held. This week, we will establish a new connection for Turkey by inaugurating this natural gas pipeline to fulfill Nakhchivan’s gas demand.” Furthermore, Bayraktar mentioned that the Iraq-Turkey oil pipeline has been operationally ready since October 4, 2023, approximately a year and a half ago, indicating the possibility for Iraqi oil to access global markets through Turkey.
