Germany’s football clubs achieve record revenue

The revenues of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 football teams in Germany reached a record-high of 5.87 billion euros in the 2023-2024 season, marking a 12% increase. The total revenue of clubs competing in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 in Germany was announced for the 2023-2024 season. German professional football continued its growth trend, reaching record numbers in revenue, taxes, fees, employment, and attendance. The revenue of the 36 clubs in the leagues in the 2023-2024 season increased by 12% from the previous season, generating a total of 5.87 billion euros. The previous record was broken in the 2022-2023 season with 5.24 billion euros. It is noteworthy that Bundesliga 2 clubs surpassed the 1 billion euro revenue threshold for the first time. In the 2023-2024 season, only 9 clubs in the top league and 8 clubs in the second league were profitable. A separate record was set in the same season with 62,000 people being employed through the clubs. As a result, 1.66 billion euros were transferred to the state treasury through taxes and fees. The increasing interest of spectators contributed to clubs’ ticket sales, breaking the record with 20.7 million tickets sold last season.
