Germany’s Response to Trump’s Additional Taxes: Ready to Strike Back

US President Donald Trump’s imposition of additional customs duties on many countries continues to be on the agenda. The latest reaction came from Germany. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the EU is ready to respond as a “united front” to Washington’s actions. President Donald Trump’s additional customs tariffs continue to make global headlines. Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany inaugurated the Hanover Industrial Fair. Scholz emphasized that his country stands in solidarity with Canada against Trump, who imposed additional customs duties on Canada and suggested that the country should be the 51st state of the US. Scholz highlighted that the European Union (EU) is not weak in the face of President Donald Trump’s additional customs tariffs and is prepared to respond as a united front to Washington. “Canada is not someone else’s state. Canada is a proud, independent nation. Canada has friends all over the world, particularly in Germany and Europe. We stand by your side,” Scholz declared. Scholz also mentioned that the EU has tools to counter Trump’s customs policy and stated, “Therefore, I say to the US, cooperation remains Europe’s goal. However, if the US does not leave any other options, like with the tariffs on steel and aluminum, the EU will respond as a united front.”
