Global Crude Steel Production Declines

Global crude steel production decreased by 3.4% in February compared to the same month last year, largely influenced by the decline in China’s production, reaching 144.7 million tons. The World Steel Association, based in Brussels, announced the crude steel production data for February. Accordingly, global crude steel production decreased by 3.4% in the second month of the year compared to February 2024, dropping to 144.7 million tons. The noticeable drop was China, the world’s largest steel producer, with a 3.3% decrease in production to 78.9 million tons. Japan’s production also declined by 8.5% to 6.4 million tons. It was estimated that crude steel production decreased by 7% to 6 million tons in the US in February, and by 13.5% to 2.7 million tons in Germany. It was predicted that crude steel production in Brazil decreased by 1.6% to 2.7 million tons in February, and by 3.4% to 5.8 million tons in Russia. During the same period, India’s production increased by 6.3% to 21.8 million tons, while Iran’s production decreased by 24.1% to 1.7 million tons. Turkey’s crude steel production also decreased by 5.6% to 2.9 million tons in February compared to the same period last year.
