Google complies with Trump’s directive: Decision to rename “America Gulf” in Maps

Google has officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the America Gulf on Maps in line with the instructions of US President Donald Trump. The company announced that it changed the name from “Mexico Gulf” to “America Gulf” on the map application in the US as per Trump’s directive. According to the announcement, the Geographic Names System in the US implemented the name change made by Trump for the Gulf of Mexico. The update on the Geographic Names System resulted in the name change from “Mexico Gulf” to “America Gulf” on Google Maps, stating, “We have started to implement changes to reflect this update, in line with our longstanding practices, as we announced two weeks ago.” While users in the US will see the name “America Gulf,” users in Mexico will continue to see “Mexico Gulf,” and users in other countries will see both names.
“AMERICA GULF” CONTROVERSY
On January 20, Trump signed an executive order at the White House to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to “America Gulf.” The decree stated, “President Trump is bringing common sense to the government and renewing the foundations of American civilization.” In the statement from Google, it was mentioned, “We have a longstanding practice of implementing name changes that are updated in official state sources.” It was announced that, following Trump’s directive, the name of the Gulf of Mexico would be changed to “America Gulf” and the name of Denali Mountain in Alaska to “McKinley.”
