Google Drive introduces video transcript feature

Google has announced a new service that allows Drive users to access transcripts for videos and search within these transcripts. After launching the automatic captioning service for videos last year, Google Drive is now introducing searchable video transcripts. Users can now view the transcripts of their videos and navigate through them at their convenience. The transcripts will appear in the sidebar next to the video player and highlight the text being spoken as the video plays. With this new update, users can easily find specific moments in the content by selecting the desired location from the speech text in videos. This feature enables users to review the content of long videos more quickly and efficiently, which could help speed up processes such as video editing and production. Additionally, content creators will no longer need to upload their videos to third-party applications to obtain transcripts. To access video transcripts, users need to open a video with captions in Google Drive and click on the gear icon in the bottom right corner of the video to access video settings. Then, simply select the “Transcript” option. In order to access the full transcript of the video, the content must be captioned. If your video does not have captions, you can manually add captions by clicking on the “Manage caption parts” option that appears after right-clicking, or you can choose the “Generate automatic captions” button right below. The video transcript feature will be available to all Google Workspace customers and users with Google accounts in the coming weeks.
