Groundbreaking development in the science world: Natural substance found to stop cancer

An exciting breakthrough has occurred in the world of science. Researchers at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and Portland University have discovered a natural substance that could halt the progression of diseases like cancer and multiple sclerosis (MS).

After years of research, this discovery was made possible by a compound called sulfuretin, found in plants, which effectively inhibits a crucial enzyme. Laboratory tests revealed that sulfuretin halted the activity of an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which is associated with cancer and MS. This enzyme can break down hyaluronic acid in the body, leading to cellular damage and disease progression.

Lead researcher Prof. Larry Sherman stated that sulfuretin not only shows promise in treating cancer and MS, but also in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. Inhibiting hyaluronidase can speed up the repair of myelin sheaths that protect nerve cells, promoting cellular healing.

This discovery is the result of years of work by chemistry professor Angela Hoffman and her students at Portland University. Scientists have been analyzing different compounds extracted from plants to identify components with potential to combat diseases.

Now, researchers are continuing their work to further investigate the therapeutic effects of this discovery. Tests on the safety and potential side effects of sulfuretin will be conducted to explore its impact on human health in more detail.

Spot: Scientists suggest that the sulfuretin compound derived from plants could be a revolutionary step in the treatment of diseases like cancer and MS.
