Hamas emphasized its responsible and serious engagement with previous efforts to cease attacks on Gaza by Palestinian groups, reiterating its readiness to continue negotiations with full responsibility. Mahmoud Merdavi, a Hamas official, stated in a written announcement that various initiatives and proposals aimed at ending the attacks in Gaza, providing humanitarian aid, and taking political steps have been considered. Merdavi mentioned evaluations of measures such as withdrawal from Gaza, prisoner exchanges, initiating the reconstruction process, and lifting the blockade. He noted, “Palestinian resistance forces approach these initiatives with responsibility and seriousness. However, Israel backed out of agreements, did not keep its promises to mediators, and reverted to a policy of massacres and attacks.” Merdavi stated, “This step not only demonstrates the occupier’s arrogant attitude but also presents the international community with a new test. They will either act in accordance with law and justice or continue their double standard policies. This situation threatens not only Palestine but also the stability of the entire region.”
Regarding the commitment to continue both the struggle and negotiation processes to achieve the goals of resistance, Merdavi expressed, “Resistance has never been a random act; it has been a legitimate path to justice and freedom, and it will remain so.” Finally, Merdavi called on the Arab and Islamic worlds, free peoples, and organizations not to settle for symbolic statements but to take concrete steps to support the fundamental cause of Palestine, Jerusalem, and the Muslim community.
